Anaheim, California – September 2024

The Michigan Cardiac Rehab Network (MiCR) team proudly presented at the 2024 American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) Annual Meeting, held in Anaheim, California. Their breakout session, titled “Leveraging the Collaborative Quality Improvement Model for Coalition Building, Benchmarking, and Intervention Support in Michigan,” provided a detailed roadmap for fostering innovative approaches in cardiac rehabilitation.

MiCR’s Co-Director, Mike Thompson, and Project Manager, Mary Casey, were joined by Larrea Young from Health Behavior Optimization for Michigan (HBOM) to deliver an engaging 75-minute presentation highlighting three key areas:

  • Creating the Michigan Cardiac Rehab Network (MiCR) and how its collaborative quality improvement model drives data benchmarking, peer-to-peer learning, and the development of best practices in cardiac rehab.

  • Expansion and Implementation of MiCR through the use of mini-grants, community partnerships and legislative advocacy, and ongoing resource development.

  • Designing NewBeat by applying human centered design to enhance CR participation and accessibility.

The session provided attendees with actionable strategies for data-driven decision-making, community partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and patient participation in cardiac rehabilitation. MiCR’s participation at the AACVPR Annual Meeting underscores its commitment to improving cardiac rehabilitation utilization and accessibility across Michigan.
